Jose Maria da Fonseca 'Periquita', Portugal
Readers rated this wine:
Classic, velvety, harmonious.
This classic blend of Castelao 58%, Trincadeira 39% and Arogonez 3%, spent 6 months in new French and American oak and offers exceptional value. It is also renowned for being the first red wine bottled in Portugal; it's been in existence since 1850.
Fragrant black cherry and raspberry aromas are layered with cedar and violets, vanilla, clove, cinnamon, star anise and pipe tobacco. It has a supple, velvety palate with generous fruit. It's a modern wine with a rustic backbone and trails chocolate flavours on the finish. Harmonious, approachable and tasty.

Rustic, approachable and smooth.
A rustic and well-loved Portuguese red with aromas of cocoa, cherries and red currents, leather, tobacco and sweet spices and vanilla. It's fresh with similar cocoa, vanilla and licorice flavours fattened up with generous fruit. Easy drinking and approachable with a smooth finish.

Lamole di Lamole 'Lareale' Chianti Classico Riserva, Tuscany, Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Brooding, extracted, classic. This Riserva is made by Santa Margherita from Sangiovese and a splash of Canaiolo and was aged about 2 years in new French oak barrels.
Wild red berry and cherry aromas are woven with charred licorice branch, tobacco, brown spices, toasted oak and there are some pretty floral undertones. It has an attractive weight and is definitely more brooding and extracted than many of the others I've tasted recently. It has a charred sort of bitterness in the form of spice and cocoa. It's firm and has classic Chianti tannins and a tobacco flavoured finish.

M. Chapoutier 'Belleruche' Cotes-du-Rhone, France
Readers rated this wine:
Inky, supple, approachable.
Expect an inky purple wine with plush aromas of blueberries and licorice, vanilla and violets, dried violets and cedar with brown spiced and garrigue at the core. Full-throttle fruit loads the attack and is weighted with cola spice flavours. Approachable and clean, balanced and complex. Exceedingly easy to drink.
Pairs great with Gone Crackers Olive Oil & Cracked Pepper

M. Chapoutier 'Bila Haut' Blanc, Cotes du Roussillon France
Readers rated this wine:
Wildflowers, citrus, tangy.
Made from Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Macabeu, this engaging white from the south of France smells of oyster shell and citrus, lanolin and golden fruits, beeswax, garrigue and dried flowers. Creamy on the palate it also has bold citrus flavours melded with yellow apples and a long finish trailing zesty lime notes.
Pair: fish, avocado and grapefruit salads, soft-medium cheeses.
