Fort Berens

British Columbia
Fraser Canyon - Lillooet

Fort Berens Estate Winery Meritage, British Columbia
Readers rated this wine:
Savoury, fresh, sauvage.
A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, primarily estate fruit -- with some Okanagan blended in.
It is decidedly more masculine and sauvage in style, offering aromas of dried herbs, smoked brown spices, roasted green bell peppers atop espresso, dark chocolate, plums, black currents and pencil shavings. Freshness shows well on the palate; it is meaty and savoury in the mouth as well, with dark mocha, roasted spices, grilled meats, tobacco and black fruits.
It's a substantial wine showcasing its Lillooet roots.

Readers rated this wine:
Wild, green, angular.
A blend of (60%) Merlot, (19%) Cabernet Franc and (21%) Cabernet Sauvignon, estate and Okanagan fruit, this year's meritage from Fort Berens has some real angles and issues.
Wild herbs and green bell peppers, toasted spice and cocoa, rubber/iodine and smokey undertones dominate the nose. The palate is similarly inclined; coffee, bittersweet chocolate, herbal and bell pepper green notes, rubber and smoked spices. The fruit seems to have dropped off, or was baked off during a hot season...
