Poplar Grove Pinot Gris, Okanagan Valley BC, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
Poplar Grove's Pinot Gris has been a consistent BC favourite, but it has morphed over the years as winemaker Ian Sutherland has sought the perfect yeast cocktail. You may be convinced this wine has seen some oak contact but it's the yeast that gives it its additional supple texture and aromatics.
There are some apple pie and pear compote aromas, faint spice, honey and caramel notes. On the palate it is quite lush - rounded and creamy- the pear, caramel and fine spice return but crisp citrus flavours linger. Good concentration and a long warm finish this wine pairs well with extra aged nutty Gouda.
