Plaisir de Merle Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch South Africa, 2001
Readers rated this wine:
There are two rather impressive things going on with this bottle - before you even crack it open. First it's available in a magnum (although it does come in a 750ml) which is impressive for special gatherings and second it's a 2001 vintage. Plaisir de Merle holds it's wine back longer than many wineries - which is only beneficial to you, the buyer. With the extra age you get to drink a wine that has softened and integrated nicely without having to cellar it yourself.

The Cabernet is loaded with cassis, plum and dark floral aromas supported by char, spiced game meat and herbal notes. On the palate it's smooth, with sweet, ripe berries, it's earthy and spiced with a rich, supple weight.
Elegant!
Pair with braised beef, mashed root veg or puy lentils.
