Valdivieso Reserve Cabernet Franc, Curico Valley Chile, 2004
Readers rated this wine:
This single vineyard Cabernet Franc will be embraced by those who love the classic Bordeaux and Loire varietal and will impress those who usually don't care for it. Here, like in Bordeaux, we generally see it blended with Cabernet Sauvignon (for structure) and Merlot (for softness) as it's often found lacking as a stand alone.
But in this wine you'll find crushed blackberry, currants and loads of savoury elements - savoury herbs and smoked meats - with an underlying minerality. It is medium-full bodied and fresh on the entry with earth and current flavours, it's smooth mid-palate with chocolate and oak spice and has a subtly chewy finish with dark cocoa and leathery hints.
