Alliance Loire 'Les Epinats' Saumer, Loire Valley, France
Readers rated this wine:
Classic, fresh, spicy.
Consistently a classic example of Cabernet Franc, this Les Epinats 2017 is leaner than last vintage, offering red currents and cranberry, green peppercorns and fresh herbs, with spice and bacon fat. It's medium-bodied, fresh and spicy with flavours of tealeaf, tart red fruit and mixed greens.
A wine made better with food and with a slight chill.

Alliance Loire 'Les Epinats' Saumer, Loire Valley, France
Readers rated this wine:
Classic, fresh, savoury.
Consistently a classic example of Cabernet Franc, this Les Epinats 2018 is riper than the previous vintage and suggests smoked plums and ripe cherry, baking spice, white pepper, cocoa, grilled andouillette, leather and tealeaf. The palate is a muddle of red fruits cocoa, spice and savoury/salty flavours. Good length and freshness; starting to show tertiary flavours.
A wine made better with food and with a slight chill.

Alliance Loire 'Les Epinats' Saumer, Loire Valley, France
Readers rated this wine:
Charming, pristine, consistent.
Consistently a stunning example of Cabernet Franc.
The Les Epinats doles out pristine aromas of sweet summer berries and freshly picked red grapes, before rolling into savoury notes of leather, cocoa, spice and bacon fat. It has an umami character on the palate, which mimics the nose. It is medium-bodied with high-toned and juicy fruit flavours, which trail into fine spice on the finish. Tannins are powdery but textural and it boasts wonderful levity; a wine made even better with food

Cave St. Pierre Syrah, Chamoson, Valais, Switzerland
Readers rated this wine:
Refined, levity, fragrant. This is certainly a conversation starter. If you've had a wine from Switzerland before, you're a small minority, mostly because their domestic market is so strong for their own wines, we rarely see them exported.
This Syrah shows its cooler-clime in its freshness. Notes of black cherry syrup, red plums, licorice, sweetened coffee, savoury spices and oodles of ground white pepper lead to a supple medium-bodied wine with coffee and caramel, cocoa and fine spice (white pepper notably) flavours. Refined with good levity and length, overall.

Celler el Masroig 'Sola Fred' Montsant, Catalonia Spain
Readers rated this wine:
Supple, savoury, earthy.
This un-oaked, slate grown Carignan comes from the DO of Montsant, which is named after the mountain near Barcelona.
The 2018 version of this wine is just as tasty as previous but much more succulent. Expect smoked spice and roasted meat, fleur de sel and iodine all wrapped up in strawberry and saddle leather. It is supple yet juicy, with licorice, spiced and strawberry flavours dominating the palate. Wonderfully balanced, and that savouriness you experience on the nose returns on a lengthy finish.
Pairs great with Gone Crackers Olive Oil & Cracked Pepper
