Castelas Cooperative Cellar

Rhone Valley

Les Vignerons du Castelas 'Domaine Respelido' Rose, Tavel, Rhone Valley, France
Readers rated this wine:
Dry, tangy, lengthy.
The cooperative cellar of the winegrowers of Castelas was created in 1952 when a handful of winegrowers combine efforts to develop the wines of the Cotes du Rhone, Cotes du Rhone Villages Signargues, AOP Tavel and IGP du Gard. The cellar's vineyards covers 450 hectares mainly in Cotes du Rhone with a combined 45 families of cooperative winegrowers.
This Tavel AOP ruby (the image makes it look paler than in real life) rose is a blend of Grenache (60%), Syrah (20%), Clairette (10%) and the remaining 10% is equal parts Carignan and Cinsault.
Ruby red and dripping with cherry, tangy wild berries, honey, charred orange peel, earth, dried strawberries and garrigue aromas. It's dry and earthy in the mouth with racy acidity and notable power. The finish ls lengthy. Admirable.

This blend of Viognier (60%) and equal parts Roussanne and Grenache Blanc delivers fresh orange blossoms and yellow apples, wild honey, flint, star fruit, grapefruit and vague peachy notes. It's fresh and zesty with attractive weight and slick texture. Good deptht and creaminess.

It's a blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%) aged 15 months.
Notes of spiced black cherries and licorice, plum cake and salted licorice, carob, chocolate and garrigue lead to a concentrated palate. Fresh and generous it has fleshy black and purple fruit, white pepper, espresso and chocolate. Good structure and length--nicely woven.

Les Vignerons du Castelas Cotes du Rhone Red, Rhone Valley, France
Readers rated this wine:
Savoury, fresh, cherry.

Made from 60% Syrah with 40% Grenache this blend poses aromas of cherry compote and vanilla, leather, tobacco, mocha, toasted spices and garrigue. The entry is fresh and it has texture across the palate. It has a savoury foundation with a sweet overlying character and peppery finish. Nicely formed, a well honed red.

Pale-salmon in colour it suggests earth and white pepper, garrigue and tart red berries along with dried purple floral aromas. It's a dry pink with good acidity and structure. Food friendly and harmonious, it has a medium-length finish.
