Stoneboat Vineyards 'Rock Opera Reserve' Pinotage, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
NEW, lengthy, impressive.
New screen-printed labels and a series of new selections will greet you with a whole new Stoneboat Pinot House--the wines are just as solid.
This reserve, is made of Pinotage--a South African variety (Cinsault crossed with Pinot Noir) has been barrel-aged for 15 months.
Behold ye who disdain Pinotage--smoked cherries, toasted spice, leather and tobacco, espresso and a seam of wild summer berries dominate the nose. Yes there are those tart and rubber notes we associate with the varietal, but overall, it's an excellent version. On the palate, explosive wild berries, spice and licorice with impressive concentration and weight. Lengthy with a silky finish.

Stoneboat Vineyards 'Rock Opera' Pinotage, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Smooth, spicy, savoury.
Made of Pinotage--a South African variety (Cinsault crossed with Pinot Noir), which has its fans and its critics, ut Stoneboat handles it well.
Notes of strawberries and bacon fat, tealeaf, sage, peppery spices and iodine lead to a palate of tangy briary berries, savoury spices and bruised strawberry. It is smooth and savoury.

This one, is made of Pinotage--a South African variety (Cinsault crossed with Pinot Noir), which has its fans and its critics, but when you talk about this rare variety in British Columbia, Stoneboat is usually the first to spring to mind.
Notes of strawberries and smoke, wild grasses and sage, bacon fat and ink, black raspberry and fennel are layered with spices. The palate is a mirror of the nose; jit is also juicy and savoury and finely textured. Very good levity here, with an earthy finish is dusty cocoa tannins.

Stoneboat Vineyards Bedrock Red, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Stoneboat, on the Black Sage Gravelbar in Oliver, is now owned by Rudy Verhoeff and Kyla Richey, former professional volleyball athletes. They also own Valley Commons, is a winery established in the District Wine Village in Oliver in 2021. Both wineries fall under the Verhoeff Group of Companies, which is headed by Paul Verhoeff, Rudy's father. The family also owns a flooring company, a brewery and restaurants in the Fraser Valley.
The Bedrock is made from 55% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, 7% Syrah and Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec, which was aged 18 months in French oak barrels (23% new). It has a black cherry cola nose along with raspberry tea, sarsaparilla, chocolate and a hint of white pepper. The palate entry is supple, the fruit expressive and the finish trails peppery spices and cigar flavours. Quite extracted but overall nice freshness.

Made primarily from clone 115 (with splashes of 114 and 828) it was aged 11 months in French oak (11% new).
It's a delightful Pinot brimming with sweet wild raspberry and violet aromas layered with cedar, rainforest floor and a dash of finely ground spices. The palate is as juicy and bright as the nose; it is fine-boned and finessed with lovely balance and structure overall. Charming.
