Stoneboat 'Piano' Brut, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Approachable, bouncy, quaffable.
Stoneboat makes estate wines from its home vineyard on the Black Sage gravel bar in Oliver. Constructed like a Prosecco, in the charmat (aka cuve close) method (all fermentation happens in tank) this pretty bubbly comes from 35-year-old estate Pinot Blanc vines.
It's reminiscent of a Prosecco in the glass too; delicate orchard fruit, rose scented talc and pretty citrus notes lead to an equally pristine palate. It has a fine bouncy fizz and charming character. Dry-ish and quaffable, it has summer-on-the-patio written all over it. ©copyright 2021 Daenna Van Mulligen

Stoneboat 'Piano' Brut, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Approachable, tart, generous.
Made in the Method Cuve Close (meaning closed tank), which is like the sparkling Proseccos from Italy's Veneto, aka the bulk or charmat method. It's made from 30 year-old Pinot Blanc vines and some Muller-Thurgau and offers crunchy white and yellow tree fruit aromas wrapped in citrus and bakers yeast. The palate is tart and earthy; there are some herbal flavours as well. Good generosity, medium-sized bubbles and approachable.
Fun and perfect for sipping or pair with spicier dishes, or holiday dinners. ©copyright 2018 Daenna Van Mulligen

Stoneboat Vineyards 'Cascadia Series' Pinot Gris
Readers rated this wine:
Stoneboat, on the Black Sage Gravelbar in Oliver, is now owned by Rudy Verhoeff and Kyla Richey, former professional volleyball athletes. They also own Valley Commons, is a winery established in the District Wine Village in Oliver in 2021.
Both wineries fall under the Verhoeff Group of Companies, which is headed by Paul Verhoeff, Rudy's father. The family also owns a flooring company, a brewery and restaurants in the Fraser Valley. However, the grapes for this wine come from Yakima Valley in Washington State. The wine spent 4 months in neutral oak.
Despite the oak being neutral I find it distracting in this wine, it's absorbed more than like for a Gris. It comes through on the nose and the palate, oak soaked pears and smoked dried flowers, grass clippings and white grapefruit aromas lead to a zesty, mineral-focused palate with lemon and oak flavours. The finish suggests spice and tobacco leaf.
Pair this wine with pastas in mushroom sauce, strong cheeses, chicken salad or salmon.
