Barone di Valforte

Abruzzi

Barone di Valforte Montepulciano d'Abbruzzo, Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Rustic, cherries, savoury.

Consistently reliable and food-friendly, this Montepulciano offers tart cherries, raspberry tea and spice with notes of straw, leather and matchstck. It's slightly more austere and leaner than I remember, but has the same rustic character. Flavours of tealeaf, espresso, bitter cocoa powder and savoury spiced mimic the nose.
Pair: Roasted meats, game, hard cheeses.

Readers rated this wine:
Fragrant, fresh, delicious.

I've been reviewing this consistently reliable and food-friendly red for nearly a decade and it's always and a pleasure.
Expect cherries in vanilla liqueur and purple flowers, coffee and concord grapes atop licorice aromas. The entry is supple and it delivers charming purple berry flavours along with wild flowers and cocoa. It's a juicy wine, singular and delicious with fine sweet tannins.
Pair with dinners of roasted meats, game, hard cheeses, or veggie burgers, pizza or grilled mushrooms and eggplant.
Pairs great with Gone Crackers Olive Oil & Cracked Pepper

Made entirely from Passerina grapes, this thoughtful rarity offers aromas of crunchy yellow fruits, smoked lemons, wild honey, rosemary, green almonds, and mineral undertones. Barone di Valforte Pecorino Colli Aprutini, Abbruzzo, Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Creamy, drinkable, concentrated.
This middling aromatic variety called Pecorino, offers aromas of wild honey and yellow tree fruits, beeswax, star fruit, lemon balm and white blossoms. It is creamy, a golden hue with good concentration and an oily, lanolin-like character in the mouth. A drinkable Italian white, which will be great alternative to Chardonnay.

Readers rated this wine:
Fragrant, drinkable, charming.
This variety called Pecorino is not only a conversation starter (same name as the cheese, but it's a grape classic to Abruzzo and Marche in Eastern Italy) but is entirely charming. Fragrant aromas of green apples and honey, apricot and jasmine it has a tangy and pristine palate with wonderful weight and concentration. Lively and lengthy, it's a wine you need to discover.
