Play Estate Winery 'Spotlight Series' Semillon, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Juicy, zesty, waxy.
Play Estate is located outside of Penticton on Skaha Hills Drive and boasts some outstanding views from the winery and bistro.
The Spotlight Series is an entry level tier, and this Semillon was half barrel-aged in oak for 8 months and the other portion was aged on lees and stirred weekly in stainless for 6 months before blending the final wine. Lemon wax and pine needles, gooseberry, honeycomb and mountain stream aromas lead to a zesty palate with lemon oil and resin flavours. The finish is pithy. ©copyright 2021 Daenna Van Mulligen

Play Estate Winery Cabernet Franc, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Tangy, salty, textural.
Having undergone a packaging makeover, Play Winery's labels are looking quite lighthearted these days.
Located outside of Penticton on Skaha Hills Drive, the estate boasts outstanding views from the winery and bistro. Grown on the Wild Horse Estate vineyard, it lwas maured in French oak for 16 months before bottling. It leads with paprika, cedar, fleur de sel, red currents and cocoa atop beet greens and freshly turned earth aromas. It's a leaner Cab Franc with loads of wild herbs melded with tart red berry flavours. Expect notable acid here, slightly textural tannins and a bittersweet finish. It leans toward a Loire-style Franc. ©copyright 2021 Daenna Van Mulligen
