Chateau la Besage Grande Cuvee, Bergerac, France
Readers rated this wine:
Textural, plush, harmonious.
As a neighbor of Bordeaux, wine has been planted in the Bergerac region since Roman times. While mostly unheard of, it was once of France's first appellations, formed in 1936.
This Grand Cuvee is a blend of the classics: Cabernet and Merlot, and offers value we often don't think about from its prestigious neighbor.
Sweet smoked cherries are woven with sarsaparilla, rose petals, pipe tobacco and espresso aromas. The palate is as plush and sensual as the nose; it is medium bodied, spicy and fresh, but also textural and trails sooty tannins. A wonderfully balanced wine and offers great value for price.

It is a savoury red with wild black berries, smoked meat, leather, graphite, black plum, carob and toasted spice aromas. The entry is supple and leads with flavours of charred cherries, which are layered with baking spice, leather and tobacco. It has length and depth and structure and balance all in check.

Plush, distinct, harmonious.
Plush aromas of purple berries and violets are layered with unctuous chocolate, licorice, vanilla and baking spices. The palate, while leaner that the nose eludes, is structured and balanced with fine spice and cocoa.
A harmonious wine.

Second review: December 2023Chocolate covered plums and Christmas cake, toasted baking spices and licorice, leather and pipe tobacco aromas lead to a supple palate with primary earthy flavours. Leather, toasted spice and coffee flavours line the palate. The finish is remains textural seven months after my last review.

Savoury, fresh, organic.
Covert Farms is a regeneratively-farmed 650-acre fourth-generation, family-owned organic farm and winery estate located just north of Oliver.
The Amicitia is a Merlot (35%), Cabernet Sauvignon (28%), Cab Franc (16%), Malbec (11%), Petit Verdot (8%) and Syrah (2%) blend aged 14 months in French and American oak.
Notes of tobacco and dried cherry are woven with creamy dark chocolate, violets, coffee, ground spices, vanilla and wild sage. It has a supple entry with flavours to echo the nose then it grows more textural toward the finish. Nicely integrated good freshness and balance.

Savoury, concentrated, organic.
Covert Farms is a 650-acre fourth-generation, family-owned organic farm and winery estate located just north of Oliver.
The Amicitia is a Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Syrah blend that leads with notes of toasted spice, charred cherries and black currents then delves into spice, vanilla, smoked meat, mocha and plumcake. The entry is supple with notable fruit expression. Full-bodied and slightly brooding, it's a concentrated red with lifted freshness and chalky tannins; the finish trails dark cocoa, ash and coffee.
