Benjamin Hessel

Bordeaux

Benjamin Hessel 'Les Annereaux', Bordeaux, France
Readers rated this wine:
Unabashed, potent, muscular.
This organic blend of Merlot with 9% Petit Verdot was grown on sandy clay and gravel soils in the Bordeaux and suggests unabashed aromas of Kirsch and concord grapes, lilacs and chocolate shavings, sarsaparilla and orange zest. It is juicy yet equally opulent with generous purple fruits, oak spices and vanilla. A muscular structure is softened by sweet potent fruit, the finish trails leather and baking spice flavours.
Impressive concentration--delicious.

Benjamin Hessel 'Les Annereaux', Bordeaux, France
Readers rated this wine:
Postured, fresh, muscular.
Chateau des Annereaux in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation has been a family property since 1390. The 25 hectares are located on beautiful gravel and sandy soils of the right bank of Bordeaux are cultivated in organic farming since 2010.
The chateau dowes much of its glory to Caroline Ponsot, the young widow heiress of the property at the end of the 19th century--she was the one who carried out in-depth research into the fight against phylloxera in her own vineyard, and who was crowned with success for her work on American rootstocks and her numerous books on the subject.
This organic blend of Merlot with 9% Petit Verdot delivers punchy notes of ripe currants, red cherry, crushed stone, leather, pencil shavings, charred tobacco and cocoa. The palate is firm and quite muscular; red berries, cocoa and tobacco flavours dominate. Postured and fresh.
