Phantom Creek Estates Riesling, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Racy, complex, elegant.
Oliver's Phantom Creek Estates is owned by China-born Richmond-based businessman Richter Bai, who purchased the Phantom Creek and Becker (formerly owned by Harry McWatters who named it the Sundial Vineyard) vineyards in 2016.
From there a winery was erected, complete with guest center and restaurant. Kobau Vineyard on the Golden Mile bench sub-GI was purchased next and was followed by Everden Vineyard in Cawston in the Similkameen Valley, and recently a parcel on the Skaha bench sub-GI.
In 2021 Mark Beringer of Napa Valley joined the team as Director of Winemaking; he works alongside French consultant Olivier Humbrecht MW who oversees the white wine program.
Fantastic intensity here it has a smoky sort of flinty minerality with undertones of apricot seed, marmalade, star fruit and powdered floral notes. The palate shows classic Riesling character with a slick, concentrated and elegant palate. It is bone dry and suggests peach, forest floor and grapefruit peel, which trails on the finish. A racy wine with depth and complexity.

This inaugural limited edition Chardonnay is outstanding. Wildflower honey aromas mingle with yellow apples, grilled lemon and browned butter atop a mineral core. It encompasses the palate, is fleshy yet juicy and wonderfully balanced. Expect citrus flavours and hints of roasted nuts, mango and pineapple; spice trail across the finish.

Quartz & Yarrow Sustainable Red, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Robust, dense, supple.
Quartz & Yarrow wines, produced by Phantom Creek in Oliver, are named for two types of biodynamic preparations. Yarrow is naturally high in sulpher, which stimulates and detoxifies soil. Crushed quartz is used to light energy and photosynthesis.

This red is a blend from sustainably grown vineyards with more than 20 years of age; one half is Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cab Franc and Syrah aged 18 months in French barrel (30% new). The capsule is made from sugar cane the bottle has a slightly lower weight and the label comes from tree free renewable paper.
A robust nose delivers crushed cherry and black current, peppery spices, vanilla, licorice root, pipe tobacco, molasses and balsamic. Sweet dense fruit packs the palate and it has distinct saline character and trails cigar flavours. Structured and supple, it is also balanced and woven.
It's got some age already, so I do recommend drinking now.

This Chardonnay dominant white blend from sustainably grown vineyards and it was aged entirely in stainless. The capsule is made from sugar cane the bottle has a slightly lower weight and the label comes from tree free renewable paper.
Creamed honey and unripe quince aromas are layered with yellow apples. salted ginger, griddled peaches and candle wax. It is slick and weighty with impressive concentration and flavours of stone fruits, preserved salted lemons and grapefruit zest and exotic spice notes on the finish. It's a white with substance and personality.
IMO it has a very Viognier-like character.
