Tasted bottle No.2991
This hefty premium bottle is filled with old vine (planted in 1968) Cabernet Sauvignon (84%) and Petit Verdot (7%) Merlot (13.5%), and smatterings of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec, which makes it a very different blend than previous vintages. It was aged two years in mostly French oak barrels and is a limited release.
The first Garland was released to celebrate the winery's 50th anniversary in 2019.
Vanilla liqueur and licorice, pipe tobacco and violets, mocha and baking spiced are woven with black currents and plummy aromas. A supple entry shows generous fruit and spice, vanilla and leather atop savoury flavours. It's a mouthfilling but balanced wine with notable length and sweet polished tannins.
