Cusumano Nero d'Avola, Sicily Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Muscular, ripe, supple.
There is a stunning glass stopper in this bottle, sadly hidden beneath its capsule, but you can admire it when you open it. Made from Sicily's most important red grape Nero d'Avola, it has a smoky and muscular character with a confiture of sun-ripened black fruits, espresso, grilled meats and spice. Brooding is an apt descriptor overall; it is toasted and earthy, dense and ripe. Sweet black fruit and sarsaparilla lift the palate, it enters with an attractive suppleness and trails powdery skin tannins. Expect great structure and excellent acidity to add levity.
Pair: pastas in spicy tomato sauce, rich meaty dishes or succulent eggplant caponata.
