Rupert Wines 'Protea' Chenin Blanc, Western Cape South Africa
Readers rated this wine:
Delicious, buoyant, pristine.
If you've ever been to South Africa (if not you should certainly plan to when travel is safe once more) then you will have seen the King Protea. A flowering plant, Protea Cynaroides is found in southern areas of South Africa and is the national flower of South Africa.
Protea wines, in their stunning abstract screen-printed bottles are brought to you by Anthony Rupert Wines. All offer incredible value; this Chenin Blanc and a Cabernet are less that $15 in BC Liquor Stores and now there is a pretty rose in private stores.
Anthonij Rupert was founded on the L'Ormarins farm in Franschhoek, whose winemaking history dates back to the 17th century. Originally it was owned by the late Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2001. In 2003 it was taken over by his brother Johann, who named it in his honour.. They now have a portfolio of farms: L'Ormarins in Franschhoek, Rooderust in Darling, Riebeeksrivier in the Swartland, and Altima in isolated Elandskloof.
A consistently friendly wine, thisi Chenin doles out pristine aromas of starfruit and lemon drops, peaches and spring flowers. The palate is equally precise and juicy; crunchy fruit and tangy citrus flavours mimic the nose. This wine has it all, balance, weight, concentration and a lovely clean finish.
