Rupert Wines 'L'Ormarins' Brut Classique, Western Cape, South Africa
Readers rated this wine:
Lively, fresh, complex.
Made in the traditional method, and using Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this complex and thoughtful bubbly delivers hints of berries and crisp apples, lemon balm and wild herbs, honey and very vague toasty aromas. Like the nose, the palate is fresh; tree fruits and lively citrus flavours are delivered across the tongue. It has a creamy edge carved off by notable acidity and the bubbles are fine.

Rupert Wines 'L'Ormarins' Brut Classique, Western Cape, South Africa
Readers rated this wine:
Tasty, buoyant, lively.
Protea is South Africa's national flower, and an abstract is screen-printed on the bottle, which makes for quite a beautiful package.
A consistently friendly wine, it offers crunchy yellow fruits, white blossoms and citrus on the nose. The palate is equally buoyant and fresh; golden fruits and honey with vague smoky and earthy undertones to add savouriness. Approachable, good value and simply tasty.

Readers rated this wine:
Savoury, value, smooth.,br> Protea is South Africa's national flower, and an abstract screen-printed label of it, along with its glass bottle stopper, makes for a beautiful package on this tasty red.
Bacon fat and black currant, pencil shavings, leather, toasted brown spices, leather, tobacco and salted licorice aromas lead to a smooth and fresh palate. The flavours echo the nose, sort of savoury, salty and spicy. A quintessential BBQ wine.
Pairs great with Gone Crackers Canadian Chedder & Chive

Succulent generous, approachable.

This is the second vintage the Protea wines (they also have a Chenin Blanc) have been available to us in BC and I think this vintage is trending upward.
Value is key, but it's also a tasty Cabernet; aromas of cassis pencil shavings, chocolate, sun-ripened cherries and baking spices lead to a core of leather and tobacco. It rolls out generous fruit and spice but is not a one-trick-pony, there is a decent savoury quality at its heart. Approachable but well-balanced.
