Rupert Wines 'Protea' Chenin Blanc, Western Cape South Africa
Readers rated this wine:
Energetic, pristine, mouthwatering.
Protea is South Africa's national flower, and an abstract is screen-printed on the bottle, which makes for quite a beautiful package. This is the second vintage the Protea wines have been available to us in BC and I think this vintage is trending upward. Value is key, but it's also a very energetic white. It is fruity and floral; crisp orchard fruits, Asian pears, honey, freesia and zesty exotic citrus notes dominate the nose. It is fresh, and like the nose, wonderfully pristine on the palate. It has nice focus and a mouthwatering character. Very drinkable as an everyday white, but not simplistic.
