Gold Hill

British Columbia
Oliver

Gold Hill Sauvignon Blanc, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Racy, distinct, dry.
Gold Hill proprietors, the Gill family, have been growing grapes on the slopes of the Golden Mile Bench for 30 years, they made their won wine first in 2009. Today they farm more than 26 hectares around the Okanagan Valley and the wines are made by Val Tait. The warm site produces ripe wines with generally higher alcohol but this singular Savvy doesn't lack freshness.
Pomelo and citrus blossoms, Hawaiian pink salt, burnt honey, nettle, lime peel and gooseberry aromas lead to a racy palate. It has a creamy edge and leesy undertones muddled with white pepper, lime pith and sliced crunchy starfruit sprinkled with salt. Dry with a distinct mineral character and a phenolic finish, it leans more Loire than Marlborough for sure.
Think grilled fish, oysters, asparagus, and warm chevre salads.

Gold Hill Syrah, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Plush, fresh, elegant.
Grown on the Golden Mile (albeit not on the sub-GI) Gold Hill estate vineyard, this savoury Syrah (blended with 3% Viognier) was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months prior to bottling. Notes of dried violets, plums and chocolate, black raspberry and smoked meat are layered with pipe tobacco, leather, white pepper and espresso. It has great bones and notable freshness, precision and concentration. Plums, purple berries, spice and cocoa flavours dominate. It's plush and elegant and a wonderful expression of a BC Syrah.

Gold Hill Syrah, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Mature, classic, succulent.
Grown on the Golden Mile (albeit not on the sub-GI) Gold Hill estate vineyard, this savoury Syrah was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months prior to bottling. Scorched earth and blackberries, toasted spice and espresso, roasted meat and black pepper aromas lead to a somewhat brooding palate that is earthy and laden with black fruit and a hint of prune. Overall here is a classic Syrah with enviable freshness but with a succulent character.
