Second review: December 2020
Plum cake and chocolate cherry aromas are layered with salted caramel and licorice, vanilla and earthy undertones. Supple yet muscular with a slick texture and flavours that mimic the nose. Toasted spice and bittersweet chocolate trail across the finish.

Modern, plush, generous. The McWatters Meritage (now under 5 Vine Cellars) is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with 35% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc and aged 15 months in French oak.
Chocolate covered cherries, vanilla, baking spices, pipe tobacco, leather and licorice aromas. Modern and plush, balanced with supple tannins it's a bold wine with a generous character.
Pair: Rich cuts of beef in red wine and porcini sauce, hearty stews or aged, firm cheeses.

Ponderous, savoury, heft. Harry McWatters' namesake collection Meritage is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc all from the Sundial Vineyard on Black Sage Bench in Oliver.
It dispenses ponderous aromas of char-grilled meat, smoked spices, black cherries, wild sage, tobacco and bittersweet chocolate with rich espresso notes. Smooth with supple tannins it is toasted and brooding, spicy and savoury with good heft.
Pair: Rich cuts of beef in red wine and porcini sauce, hearty stews or aged, firm cheeses.

McWatters Collection White Meritage, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Creamy, tropical, peachy. The McWatters White Meritage, under the Time Family of Wines made at the Chronos Winery (formerly TIME Winery) is 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon; a portion was oak fermented and the wine was stirred on lees for three weeks post ferment.
Chronos is named for the Greek primordial god of time, aptly, and under the McWatters (named after founder Harry McWatters) label there are three wines.
Expect notes of grilled white peaches, vanilla, toasted pecans, lemon meringue, honey, lanolin, elderflower and glazed pineapple aromas. It has a sweet tropical character layered with nuts and honey before culminating in vanilla liqueur flavours. Good freshness to balance its mild sweetness and a persistent finish overall.

TIME Winery Meritage, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Contemplative, chocolaty, savoury.
Time's new winery and tasting room is finally open in downtown Penticton and looks fantastic.
This blend of Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc is a melange of black currents, smoked plums, grilled meat, brown spices, graphite, licorice, tobacco and leather. It is fresh but supple with textural tannins across the finish. It is a contemplative wine with restraint and chocolaty flavours woven with generous fruit, and vanillin oak.

TIME Winery White Meritage, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Honeyed, concentrated, creamy.
Harry's McWatters' Time Winery and tasting room is now complete, in downtown Penticton.
This one is a nod to a Bordeaux white blend, which combines Sauvignon Blanc with Semillon.
The nose is honeyed and tropical; smoky apricots, peach compote, lanolin, elderflower and nettle notes lead to a fresh, grassy palate with a fennel and warm honey finish. It is weighty and concentrated, off-dry and seductive with a slightly textural finish.
