Boschendal 'Sommelier Selection' Chenin Blanc, Coastal Region, South Africa
Readers rated this wine:
Unique, savoury, piquant.
Founded in 1685, Boschendal stands as one of the oldest wine companies in South Africa.
This Chenin is savoury and zesty and made under the guidance of Stephan Joubert (group winemaker for DGB).
Made as a food-focused range of wine, the Sommelier Selection was founded by wine lovers, for wine lovers. This is my first crack at one of this series and the Chenin delivers pine and key lime aromas surrounded by papaya and grapefruit, wild mushrooms, clover honey and coriander seed. It has a very zest piquant character ad phenolic texture. Green olives, bread dough, grapefruit pith, charred lemon peel and coriander flavours dominate a savoury palate. Undeniably unique, I'm not sure I would have pegged this as a Chenin.
