Spearhead Pinot Gris, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Expressive, pristine, concentrated. Spearhead's winery and home vineyard (the Gentleman Farmer Vineyard) are located in South East Kelowna but they also have Coyote Vineyard in West Kelowna and the Golden Retreat Vineyard near Summerland, where this Pinot Gris hails from. The grapes are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed; 90% is cold fermented in stainless steel, the remaining in 2-year-old French oak barrels.
The purity of this wine is constantly noteworthy. Expect sweet tree fruits (think peach, pear and golden apples), zesty citrus and honeysuckle on the nose. It is crunchy and precise with a mouthwatering finish. It also has concentration length and levity.
Pair: Crab cakes served with spicy peach salsa, chicken salad or creamy pastas.

SpearHead Pinot Noir 'Coyote Vineyard', Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Fragrant, youthful, silky.
Pinot Noir maestro, Grant Stanley heads up the winemaking at Spearhead, so the Pinots are in good hands.
For the 2019 vintage Stanley has released three separate (albeit not new) site-specific Pinots together. Each saw extended maceration, spontaneous fermentation, delayed spring malolactic fermentation and 13 months in French oak, 25% of which is new.

The Coyote Vineyard is a western aspect site near West Kelowna with a south facing exposure. The vines (Dijon clone 115) were planted in its volcanic soils in 2009 at an elevation of 1300ft ASL.
Of the three single vineyards this version holds the most appealing bouquet of sweet raspberry, lilacs, star anise, wet cedar chips and undertones of concord grape and wild herbs. Silky on the tongue with flavours of tangy red forest berries tealeaf and leather it's youthful, still needing time to coalesce. The volcanic soils are reflected in the tannins.
Like all three, decanting will bring the most out in the wine.

SpearHead Pinot Noir 'Coyote Vineyard, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Pristine, bouncy, expressive.
Pinot Noir Maestro, Grant Stanley heads up the winemaking at Spearhead these days, so there's no surprise we're seeing additional SKUs of Pinot.
The Coyote Vineyard is a western aspect site near West Kelowna with a south facing exposure. The vines (Dijon clone 115) were planted in its volcanic soils in 2008. The wine was matured 13 months in 100% French oak barrel.
Of the Spearhead Pinots this one soars above; high-toned wild red berries, smoked rhubarb, bacon fat, leather and finely ground white pepper aromas morph into a sweet and expressive palate that is bouncy and pristine. Flavours of bergamot, fresh berries, rose petals and spice wash across a silky palate. Excellent length and character.

SpearHead Pinot Noir 'Coyote Vineyard, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Classic, juicy, complex.
Pinot Noir Maestro, Grant Stanley heads up the winemaking at Spearhead, so you can have faith these wines are going to be on-point.
The Coyote Vineyard is a western aspect site near West Kelowna with a south facing exposure. The vines (Dijon clone 115) were planted in its volcanic soils in 2008. The wine was matured 13 months in 100% French oak barrel.
Of the Spearhead Pinots this one seems to have a sturdier posture. Fragrant cedar and dried violets, leather and vanilla, star anise and cocoa are layered with red cherry and sun warmed raspberries. The palate is silky and juicy; flavours of tangy red, beet greens, dark cocoa and toasted spices dominate and linger across the finish. Classic, balanced and I think better with additional cellar time to really meld.
