Da Vero Vino Catarratto, Sicily, Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Organic, oily, fleshy.
Da Vero is an organic wine made by Araldica, a third-generation, family-operated co-operative based in Piedmont, Italy. Araldica has expanded their winemaking projects, working with local farmers and growers throughout Italy to produce well-priced still and sparkling wines from local grape varietals in regions such as Veneto, Lombardy, Abruzzo and Sicily.
The Catarratto grapes are sourced from the north-west corner of Sicily, at Calatafimi, between Marsala and Palermo. The vines grow in high altitude vineyards (around 500m) with chalky soils. The vineyards were converted to organic viticulture in 2005, the wine was mature only in stainless steel. Oyster shell, honey, green almonds and crunchy tree fruit aromas are underscored by a good dollop of pine resin. It's a fleshy wine with an oily texture and flavours of wild honey and citrus pith. A straightforward weekday dinner white. ©copyright 2020 Daenna Van Mulligen

Italia Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie, Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Fresh, zesty, straightforward.
Established in 2003, Adria Vini is a winemaking venture jointly owned by Boutinot and Araldica Castelvero, the leading co-operative in the Monferrato hills of Piemonte. Their aim is to produce authentic, well-priced still and sparkling wines from local grape varieties. They source from a range of private growers and cooperatives, with whom they have long term relationships, principally in Veneto, Friuli, Lombardy, Sicily, Puglia, Abruzzo and Sardinia. Their aim is to provide a range that is both understandable and accessible. Quite simply, wine for drinking and enjoying. As expected, this is straightforward every day Pinot Grigio displaying aromas of yellow fruits and white flowers, honey, fennel, green almond and wet stone. It's zesty and crisp and light-bodied with primary citrus flavours.
