Rust Wine Co. Syrah, Ferreira Vineyard, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Elegant, silky, refined.
While Rust Wine Co. is located on Golden Mile Drive, and is one of the handful of wineries allowed to use the designation Golden Mile sub-GI, they make three Syrahs, all unique and each colour coded to site along with a matching label and wax dip.
This version comes from the volcanic ash and fine granitic sand of the Black Sage Bench outside of Oliver, the vines were planted on the Ferreira estate in 2001 at 333 MASL.
Of the three, this is the elegant one. Immediately you pick up on its delicacy and refinement. A mix of fresh cherry, currents and blackberry aromas are woven with fine spice and dried roses. It has levity and jubilant fruit flavours that are layered with earth. Silky and seductive, this is my favourite, totally my cuppa. Pairs great with Gone Crackers Olive Oil & Cracked Pepper ©copyright 2021 Daenna Van Mulligen

Rust Wine Co. Syrah, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Plump, affluent, ripe.
Rust Wine Co. is located on Golden Mile Drive and is one of the handful of wineries allowed to use the sub-GI designation Golden Mile Bench. This affluent Syrah was born from the estate South Rock Vineyard. Smoked meats and blackberry jam, white pepper and chocolate, prune and espresso, licorice, molasses and cedar aromas lead to a supple palate. Generous weight, chocolaty, fleshy and quite ripe it's also concentrated and lengthy. Flavours of white pepper trail on a smooth finish.

Rust Wine Co. Syrah, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Succulent, brawny, toasted.
While Rust Wine Co. is located on Golden Mile Drive, and is one of the handful of wineries allowed to use the designation Golden Mile sub-GI, they make three Syrahs, all unique and each colour coded to site along with a matching label and wax dip.
This version comes from Rustico's home Golden Mile vineyard comprised of a fluvial fan of gravelly clay and eroded mountain rocks, planted in 2002 at 300 MASL.
Of the three, this is the savoury one. Full throttle succulent and brawny. Expect smoked meat, garrigue, black pepper, brown spices and chalky undertones. The palate opens up fresh and supple then grows firmer mid-palate. That savouriness is echoed in the mouth; peppery with roasted coffee and bitter chocolate flavours, which lead to a toasted finish. The tannins here are rougher and all in there's more texture on the palate. ©copyright 2021 Daenna Van Mulligen

Rust Wine Co. Zinfandel, Golden Mile Bench, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
Supple, generous, opulent.
While the newly turned Rust Wine Co. (formerly Rustico Farm & Cellars owned by the colourful, Bruce Fuller) is located on Golden Mile Drive and is one of the handful of wineries allowed to use the designation Golden Mile Bench sub-GI, this wine comes from that bench.
Housed in a heft bottle with a wax sealed cork, this Zinfandel doles out blueberry and blackberries laced with cloves, chocolate and espresso. The palate echoes the nose; baking spices, vanilla liqueur and generous berry flavours dominate. It is supple and slick with nice balance and sweet tannins; it is also concentrated and persistent. ©copyright 2018 Daenna Van Mulligen
