Expressive, savoury, bouncy.
Earl Jean-Maurice Raffault owns 50 hectares of vines in 7 different Loire Valley communes. The Chinon is made from the classic red variety of the Chinon appellation, Cabernet Franc and the new label is a nice improvement.
It is wonderfully expressive; affluent notes of raspberry and cherries, star anise and vanilla, mocha, tealeaf and dried rose petals with undertones of wild herbs and green olives. It is supple, earthy and spicy on the palate; red currents and savoury flavours bounce across your tongue. Bright, good length and finely textured tannins.
Pair: Mushroom wellington, ripe brie, braised meats, pastas with tomato sauces.
