Black Sage Vineyard Zinfandel, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Supple, expressive, seductive.
Sumac Ridge has renamed and re-labelled its wines from the iconic Black Sage Vineyard in the South Okanagan near Oliver. Planted over 20 years ago by previous Sumac Ridge owner, Harry McWatters, this vineyard was a turning point in BC's wine evolution - especially that of red wines.
The wines are made by Jason James and the label now stands independent from Sumac Ridge. Currently they produce: Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and the well-known Pipe, a fortified, Port-style dessert wine.
It is laden with plush fruit aromas - purple berries, allspice, licorice, mocha and dried flowers. The palate has a seductive weight and a potent fruit expression. Very good concentration of berries, Christmas cake, chocolate and pipe tobacco.
Good length and intensity.

NEW, fresh, opulent.
A fresh look and distinct new separation from the Inniskillin brand, the Dark Horse Vineyard wines are grown on the prestigious Golden Mile Bench just outside of Oliver.
This Chardonnay offers aromas of toast and grilled yellow apples, honey and roasted spice, vanillin oak and roasted hazelnut with a core of young pineapple. Sweet butterscotchy flavours are balanced by tangy citrus. It is an opulent style, potent but also juicy with a mouthwatering finish.

Dark Horse Vineyard Meritage, Golden Mile Bench, Okanagan Valley, BC
Readers rated this wine:
NEW, tight, spiced.
A fresh look and distinct new separation from the Inniskillin brand, the Dark Horse Vineyard wines are grown on the prestigious Golden Mile Bench just outside of Oliver.
Thee Meritage blend was aged 16 months in French and American oak and offers spicy black currents, wild purple berries, cigar, vanillin oak, baking spices and pipe tobacco aromas. There is a generosity of fruit here, and oodles of spice, mocha and licorice. Tight and somewhat astringent it has some sharp angles that need to soften. The finish is spicy, hot and has bitter coffee and clove flavours.
65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc.
