Penfolds 'Max's' Cabernet Shiraz, South Australia
Readers rated this wine:
Savoury, boozy, slick.
A wine inspired by Penfold's former winemaker Max Schubert, this year a special Lunar New Year bottle arrived wrapped with scarlet red cello label (not shown).
It has boozy cassis and mulberry aromas woven with vanilla, chocolate, pipe tobacco and an umani whiff of tomato leaf. The palate is savoury and meaty with brown spices, iodine and molasses and soy. It has a slick weight and good structure, the finish trails tobacco.

Wolf Blass 'Yellow Label' Cabernet Sauvignon, South Australia
Readers rated this wine:

Second Review: June 2015:
Ripe and chocolaty, peppery spices, eucalyptus very ripe cassis notes and licorice on the nose. The palate is similarly ripe - almost dried fruit alongside fruitcake, with coffee and chocolate. The acidity keep it from being bottom-heavy but it is certainly not as fresh as previously tasted.

September 2013 marked the 30th anniversary of this wine being sold in Canada. You'll notice a new label (with that 30th anniversary nod) on this Canuck favourite.
It has always been a dependable everyday red for grilled meats, burgers, chili or watching the game. Aromas of black currents, black cherry jam, sarsaparilla, baking spices are lifted with minty/eucalyptus notes. It is supple in the mouth with appealing freshness to lift the chocolaty, spicy, black fruit and coffee flavours. The finish is smooth and spicy.
