Black Cloud 'Altostratus' Pinot Noir, Okanagan Valley BC, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
Made by Bradley (not the actor) Cooper who is also the winemaker for Township 7, this premium Pinot Noir was named for a dark time after the client (who ordered the wine to be made) went broke leaving Cooper and his wife Audraee Daum holding 250 cases of said Pinot Noir. The cloud had a silver lining though and Black Cloud was born.
There is impressive developed fruit - sun-warmed black raspberry and cherry, vanilla, crushed flowers and chocolaty notes, lots of cedar and just a hint of rainforest floor. The palate is as seductive as the nose offering ripe sweet berry fruit, cedar, vanilla and chocolate. The palate, although very smooth, does have some grain to it and spice clings to the finish.
