Black Hills Estate Winery Carmenere, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Impressive, spicy, juicy.
There has been impressive progress shown in Black Hills' Carmenere as the vines get older. While it has always impressed, this (considered) Chilean variety (via Bordeaux) is rare in British Columbia. Sweet plums, wild purple berries, brown spices, leather, hints of red bell peppers mingle with liquorice and vanilla on the nose. The brightness of the palate is what elevates this wine - despite it's spicy and earthy character the juicy fruit gives it lift. Superfine cocoa tannins linger on a finish barely dusted with spice. ©copyright 2015 Daenna Van Mulligen
