Culmina Family Estate Winery 'Dilemma' Chardonnay, Okanagan Valley BC

Second review: January 2022:
Toast with butter and marmalade, hazelnuts and crunchy yellow fruit aromas lead to a similarly lemony palate with toasted nuts, powdered acacia and fine brown spices. The balance is excellent, the oak nicely integrated. A lovely Chardy.

Concentrated, fresh, spiced.
Located on the upper Golden Mile Bench, Culmina was established by the Triggs family (of Jackson-Triggs fame) in 2007 and was sold in 2019 to Arterra Wines Canada.
Dilemma was harvested from the estate's Margaret Bench it saw 9 months of sur lie aging in a combination of new (28%) and used (52%) French oak barrels, and stainless steel cask (20%). Expect notes of toasted hazelnuts and browned butter, buttermilk biscuits slathered with warm butter and honey, yellow apples and toasted coriander. The palate has a juicy entry with lemony flavours underscored by golden apples, butter and toasted spice. Wonderful concentration and creaminess overall.
