Road 13 Honest John's White, Okanagan Valley BC, 2009
Readers rated this wine:
Winemaker Michael Bartier blends: Kerner, Gewurztraminer, Schoenberger, Muller Thurgau and Pinot Gris into this Riesling dominant white. And, he has outdone himself with this vintage; it is shamelessly aromatic offering lychee, stone fruit and tangerine peel notes, honey and apples, exotic blossoms and ginger. The palate is slick, nicely weighted on the tongue and slightly sweet but nicely balanced with mouth-watering acidity. Expect very nice concentration and a long, pristine finish.

Haywire Pinot Gris, Okanagan Valley BC, 2009
Readers rated this wine:
Perhaps Vancouver PR and marketing maven Chris Coletta did go a little "haywire" when she and her partner purchased an old orchard in Summerland in 2005 and eventually becoming garagiste winemakers. But this just released, 168 first vintage cases of Pinot Gris shows a good, honest wine with an abundance of pretty aromas. It is a pristine fruit-cup of melon, Bosc pear and honey with spring blossoms and a hint of minerality. The palate is delicate, it is crisp and light with nice pomelo citrus and tree fruit flavours, the finish is long and clean.

Intrigue Wines Riesling, Okanagan Valley BC, 2009
Readers rated this wine:
I met Roger Wong several years ago - just after he started making wine at Gray Monk in Lake Country (just beyond Kelowna). I had been a huge fan of his private label Focus Riesling - a sturdy (un-Riesling-like) bottle with its crown cap topper. Well, Roger has delved in again, this time he is partners at the nearby Intrigue Wines. It is a busy time for a guy with two very young sons and a full time job (which he loves) at one winery while he manages to produce at his own. And as a heads up to those of you who remember (and loved) the Focus Riesling...it may return.
His Riesling is bright and crisp - fresh lemon and lime and tart apple with hints of stone fruits and honey blossoms. A very balanced kiss of sweetness makes the apple, apricot and citrus flavours pop. Nice concentration with a lovely slickness on the palate and a clean, crisp finish.
Well done.

This is a delightfully delicious and robust organic Pinot Gris that offers aromas of crisp apple and pear slices, melon and honeysuckle with a citrusy core. It is not bone-dry, but the sweetness is balanced with lively acidity. Flavours of ripe, fleshy fruit and hints of spice are impressive and the finish is lengthy. Like a financial blind trust the executors - in this case Laughing Stock Vineyards has full control over over the blend and could simply say, "It's a proprietary blend which we have no need to disclose..."
But they do. It is a proprietary blend containing: Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Pinot Blanc - for a precise breakdown you need only look beneath your bottle's capsule.
Lush aromas - pear and apple, some honey and vanilla, a hint of caramel with exotic floral and herbal layers and plenty of lemony notes. Great concentration on the palate - pear, melon and spice, vanilla and vibrant citrus flavours wrapped in creamy texture. The finish is very long and mouth-watering with zesty flavours.

A summer favorite, the 2009 JoieFarm - A Noble Blend (a play on words as Noble is also co-owner and winemaker Heidi Noble's last name) is comprised of Gewurztraminer with 20% Pinot Gris, 12% Pinot Auxerrois and 8% Riesling.
It's a fragrant wine, laden with honeysuckle and rose oil, lychee and starfruit, citrus and honey with a core of exotic spices. The palate is juicy and bright with flavours of green apple and lime sprinkled with warm, sweet spice. Mouth-watering and delicious!

Balthasar Ress Hattenheimer Schutzenhaus Riesling, Rheingau Germany, 2007
Readers rated this wine:
Balthasar Ress was one of my favourite visits during a 2008 German wine tour - the wines are consistently delicious too.
The Hattenheimer Schutzenhaus is a mouthful to say and a joy to sip. Expect aromas of slate and green apples, honey, spring blossoms and bright citrus. On the palate it is off-dry but is balanced with lively acidity and tangy lemondrop flavours.
Pair with sushi, spicy Indian dishes or tangy cheeses.

A favorite for years, this aromatic Viognier releases vibrant lemon and lime leaf notes with richer peach, mango and papaya fruit and warm spiced tones. The palate is very fresh but also rounded and lush, expect green papaya and mango flavours liberally laced with lime and spiked with spice.

Mount George 'White Wire', Hawkes Bay New Zealand, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
NEW!
This very tasty, fragrant blend of Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris will be perfect with spicy dishes, sushi or just sipping on the patio!
There are very verdant cut grass and nettle notes, mineral and citrus lifted with stone fruit and melon with a whiff of elderflower. The palate is vibrant and juicy - loads of tropical fruit like pineapple and mango, exotic citrus, honey and sweet spice lingering. Not a shy wine - it is brimming with flavour, a kiss of sweetness is cleaned up with bright acidity, the texture is slightly slick and the finish is impressively long.

Readers rated this wine:
Buy it by the case!
When I poured this wine into a glass and gave it a sniff, the first words out of my mouth were wow! Effusive aromas that will lure you back again and again. It has a faint peachy tone that matches its fragrance - pretty star fruit, spring blossoms and peach stone, tangerine peel and talc with a hint of anise. The palate is snappy and crisp with a slightly slick texture. Peach stone and flavours return on the palate, it has an impression of sweetness and bitter almond flavours lingering on the finish.
Fantastic value!

St. Hubertus Frizzante Rose, Okanagan Valley BC, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
Sweet yet tart this, just slightly frizzante (prickly on your tongue) rose will make a fun patio sipper - especially when paired with mildly spicy Indonesian dishes like Tohu Kecap.
Aromas of sour cherry and cranberry, spice and saddle leather, yeast and tobacco with a hint of marzipan. The palate is off-dry and juicy with tart red fruit, citrus and spice which follows through to the finish.

Fork in the Road 'White' Okanagan Valley BC, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
From Artisan Wine Co, the Fork in the Road wines represent a white and a red - both blends. This one is named "Oliver Block 212 White" and it is a blend of Chardonnay, Semillon, Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc.
It is an aromatic wine with layers of peach, apricot and tangerine, vanilla cream and a dusting of sweet spice. Mouth-watering acidity lifts the palate, flavours of stone fruit and citrus peel, vanillin oak and exotic spice. It is lengthy and zesty with spice flavours remaining long across the finish.

Bodegas Santa Ana Casa de Campo Torrontes Reserva, Mendoza Argentina 2008
Readers rated this wine:
If you have not already explored Argentina's indigenous aromatic white variety, I ask, "why not"?.
You can expect spiced stone fruit aromas to jump out of the glass followed by exotic floral notes with hints of honey and marzipan. It's a nicely weighted white with a lush texture and plenty of rich fruit but the acidity is there for support and plenty of zippy citrus flavours pop up on the finish.
Pair with mildly spiced dishes.

Stift Goettweig Messwein Gruner Veltliner, Kremstal Austria, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
Messwein can only be produced under permission of the Benedictine Bishop and specific purity laws must be obeyed in the vineyard. And there is a fantastic history behind this Benedictine wine estate, it has been producing wine in Kremstal since the 11th century...
But despite a long history, we must enjoy the wines today and enjoy you will. Newly arrived, this Gruner Veltliner is, in a word, stunning (and I'm not just taking about the fresco inspired capsule).
It smells like a bouquet of honeysuckle and spring blossoms, melon, apple and apricots, lemon drops and a sprinkling of white pepper. It is crisp with a soft, creamy edge and has wonderful concentration, it has surprising weight and an almost slick, minerally texture with a long lively finish.
Gorgeous.

This is a very fruity, easy sipping Prosecco with a light spumante mousse.
The aromas are a fruit-cup of peach and crisp pear in syrup, fine chalky minerality and fragrant white blossoms. The palate is light but really snappy and vibrant, it has a soft mousse, a kiss of sweetness and flavours of peach stone, and citrus peel that linger through a very lengthy finish.
Very tasty!

Primo'V Prosecco, Treviso Italy, NV
Readers rated this wine:
This Kosher Prosecco has delicate fruit cup aromas, lemon balm and citrus with a hint of flinty minerality. It is simple but fresh on the palate with a nice creamy texture, plenty of sweet fruit and a long finish with classic Prosecco citrus peel/citrus pith flavours.
A great breakfast bubbly but it will also be fantastic with light appetizers or spicy dishes.

Inniskillin 'Discovery Series' Marsanne~Roussanne, Okanagan Valley BC, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
This is a scent-sual wine laden with peachy/mango fruit, lime leaf and honeysuckle aromas. The palate is concentrated, quite voluptuous with plenty of sweet, creamy peach and zesty citrus flavours with hints of warm caramel and a pinch of spice. Great acidity throughout also balances a slightly oily finish that clings to your tongue.
A 50/50 blend that is even better than the 2007 vintage.

DFJ Vinhos "Pink Elephant" Rose, Lisboa Portugal, 2008
Readers rated this wine:
If an easy drinking pink is right up your alley then a fresh pink that supports the Elephant Family charity organization that works to save the endangered Asian elephant may be even more appealing.
The wine itself is a vibrant cranberry colour with bright strawberry and citrus aromas. It's off-dry but certainly not sweet, crisp and zippy with flavours of pink grapefruit and red berries.
Simple and refreshing...a good value wine for your spicy meals!

Mt. Lehman Ehrenfelser, Fraser Valley BC, 2007
Readers rated this wine:
Just what I love about Ehrenfelser (this grape is a cross of Riesling and Sylvaner), bright fruitcup aromas, pear, honey, apple and lemon with orange blossoms and a hint of sweet herbs. The palate is off-dry but has crisp acidity to balance and a bright, clean finish.
Very tasty with spicy Indian cuisine!

Mt. Lehman winery is located just outside of Abbotsford. They popped onto my radar at the start of September and popped onto my palate less than two weeks later. I was impressed not only at the quality of the white wines I tasted but that owner Vern Siemens has been growing his estate vines longer than many folks in the Okanagan.

The Riesling reminds me of the more austere German Rieslings I tasted there...aromas of green apples and peach blossoms, lemon drops and minerals. The palate provides similar lemon-lime and apple peel flavours with a kiss of honey. It is a fantastically clean and crisp Riesling with a hint of sweetness but wonderful mouth-watering acidity.
Bravo!
