Da Silva Vineyards and Winery Chardonnay, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Elegant, fresh, juicy.
The da Silva estate is located on the Naramata Bench and is owned by Richard and Twylla da Silva. Da Silva's story begins in 1955 when the family moved from Portugal to the Okanagan Valley--in 1959 they purchased an orchard. Almost 50 years later, in 2006, the family built a winery and today they draw fruit from 11 different vineyards/growers located in: Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos and Penticton.
The winery is also home to The Kitchen at da Silva, where a fusion of Mexican~Portuguese tapas is the theme.
The Chardonnay comes from two Penticton sites: Lazy Dog Vineyard and Blenheim Hill Vineyard. It was stainless steel fermented and aged in a mix of stainless and American oak barrels for 8 weeks.
Vanilla and pineapple chunks, yellow apples and honeysuckle aromas are woven with creamy lemon curds and talcum notes. It's a primarily fresh Chardonnay, juicy and clean with just an edge of creaminess. Lovely weight and length; it trails flavours of toasted spice, vanilla and lemon peel.

The 2022 suggests lemon and melon rind, wild herbs, wet stone and vague notes of wild honey and toasted nuts. The palate has notable acidity, is citrusy and slick with toasted baguette and spice flavours. The finish is zesty and has just a hint of clove.

The estate Hidden Hollow Vineyard on the Naramata Bench is home to these Chaenin Blanc vines. It's grown on sandy loam soils and saw only stainless steel in production.
It's a Chenin with notan;e restraint--notes of crunchy unripe nectarine and lemon are layered with starfruit, spring flowers and beeswax. The palate is juicy and dominated by citrus flavours; it has a slippery texture and notably zesty finish.

It's a restrained Chenin with fresh lemony notes layered with vague peach skin, start fruit, white flowers and wild honey aromas. It's chic and pristine and snappy with nice weight and a long racy finish.
