Textural, plush, supple.

Expect sunwarmed cherries and black raspberry, vanilla, mocha and baking spices. Supple and generous, plush and juicy it has a textural palate and trails, espresso, dark cocoa and spice flavours.

Second review; November 2023
A savoury wine it offers cherries and clay, smoked meat and charred spices, red and black wild berries and salted licorice aromas. The palate is an echo of the nose; toast leather, bacon fat and very faint mixed wild berry flavours. It's quite muscular and brooding but also fresh.

Satisfying, fragrant, fleshy.
Poggio al Tufo has been owned by the Tommasi family since 1997; Tommasi owns estates in Valpolicella, Montalcio, Lombardy, Basilicata and Puglia. Rompicollo is made from Cabernet and Sangiovese.
Always a seriously delicious wine, the 2018 (with its new label!) delivers red cherry and plus, candied roses and rapberry aromas layered with pipe tobacco, chocolate, leather and cigar notes. It's a fresh and fleshy wine, earthy and spiced with juicy red fruit and spice flavours. Lengthy, satisfying and delicious, a beauty of a red.
Pairs great with Gone Crackers Parmesan & Rosemary

It has strong earthy undertones and fragrant overtones of blueberry and black raspberry, star anise and pipe tobacco, leather, carob and charred cedar. It has sweet expressive fruit to mimic the nose and a plush character; it is concentrated, the texture is slick. A wonderfully satisfying red trailing chocolate and coffee flavours.

Tommasi "Ripasso" Valpolicella, Veneto Italy
Readers rated this wine:
Voluptuous, expressive, lengthy.

Made in a traditional, regional style of re-fermenting grapes from already made Amarone in order to lend a richness and concentration to a second wine. In this case the Tomassi "Ripasso".
The aromas are as expected, plush. Dried cherries, prune, vanilla, sweet coffee, baking spices and saddle leather, licorice, balsamic and kirsch. The palate is also generous but not ponderous; good fruit expression, coffee, baking spices, vanilla and cocoa flavours dominate. Beautifully balanced, lengthy and wonderful to drink.
Pair with rich slow roasted meat dishes or finish with strong, hard cheeses or dark chocolate.
