Painted Rock

British Columbia

Painted Rock Syrah, Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Harmonious, elegant, supple. A standout in Painted Rock's portfolio, their complex Syrah never fails to impress.
The Syrah grapes come from two west-facing sloped vineyard blocks (clones 99 & 100) and it was aged in 30% new oak; of the new oak 80% was French and 20% American. The remaining 70% was aged in French.
Smoked cherries, brown spice, leather, vanilla, charred carob, coffee beans, licorice, and finely ground pepper aromas dominate on the nose. It has a supple texture and generous character with dark mocha, vanilla liqueur and pepper flavours. Harmonious and seamless, and drinking well even in its current youth.
Pair: spicy chorizo pizza, smoked gouda and caramelized onion grilled cheese, cheese fondue or game.
