Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Chardonnay, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Stylish, refreshing, expressive
A lovely juxtaposition of fresh and fruity, the 2013 BOV is sweetly buttery, warmly spiced and offers dried pineapple chunks, Bosc pears, vanilla, orange blossoms, lemon zest, white pepper and star anise on the nose. It is smooth and juicy with a creamy edge with lovely fruit expression and a tangy finish. Stylish, but it doesn't take itself too seriously - a current trend in Chardys.

Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Chardonnay, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Tropical,fleshy, creamy.
This handpicked estate Chardy was fermented in tank (25%) and oak (75%) with different strains of yeast to add complexity; it went through partial mololactic fermentation and was aged in assorted oak barrels for 9 months.
More tropical than the 2021, the 2020 shows banana and pineapple, apricots and honeysuckle, hazelnut and wild honey aromas. The palate mimics the nose, creamy golden fruit, lemon and butterscotch lead to a clove flavoured finish.

Browned butter and creamed yellow apples are layered with brown spices, vanilla, toast and hazelnut aromas. It's slick and creamy with notable concentration and balanced acidity. Flavours of whipped yellow fruits and spice are lashed with butterscotch.

Expect sweet dark cherries, cassis and blackberries along with sarsaparilla, and pipe tobacco on the nose. It has a supple weight and generous plump black fruit, mocha, licorice and spices. Smooth and well-woven it's a delicious and is drinking well now but feel free to cellar for up to a decade.

Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Meritage, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Intense, woven, fresh.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cab Franc, and Malbec come together in this blend. Grapes were harvested by hand from Burrowing Owl's south Okanagan estate vineyards from Oliver and Osoyoos. The best barrels of each single varietal wine were selected for the blend. After the components were combined, they were barreled for another 18 months.
Expect an age-able wine with a rich nose of cherry, plum, wild sage, vanilla, dark chocolate, leather and espresso with salty/mineral undertones. The palate follows suit; intense with red and black fruit, leather, smoked sausage and wild savoury herbal flavours. Fresh and bold with a cigar-like finish.
