River Stone Estate Winery Cabernet Franc Rose, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Founded in 2001 by winemaker Ted Kane, River Stone is a small estate winery located in Oliver BC. It's comprised of two estate vineyards focusing primarily on Bordeaux-varieties and aromatic whites; the tasting room was opened in 2010.
It's been a decade since I last tasted the River Stone and I believe the rose was made from Malbec at that time.
Now made from Cabernet Franc grapes, which were cold soaked for between 24-48 hours to achieve this vibrant hue.
A salmony-ruby hue this off-dry rose suggests strawberries and honey, rhubarb and peach, red currents, faint spice and some herbal undertones. The palate echoes the nose; it is fruity and slick with nice levity. It has some structure from the tannins to make it a good food wine, and a zesty finish.

River Stone Estate Winery Cabernet Franc, Okanagan Valley BC
Readers rated this wine:
Concentrated, supple expressive.
Made from River Stone's South Okanagan estate vines, this Cabernet Franc is consistently concentrated and ripe. Expect aromas of currents, black raspberry and cherries, leather and spice, sarsaparilla, mocha, crushed violets and molasses. It is supple and intensely flavoured; purple fruits and velvety mocha dominate the palate. It has great balance and structure with a sweetly spiced finish.

Readers rated this wine:
Savoury, tangy, fresh.
This is the first time I've tasted a Rover Stone Cabernet Franc in almost a decade, this new model is the first from their Boulder City Vineyard in the South Okanagan. It was matured 18 months in French Oak.
It's notably savoury on the nose; tobacco and pencil shavings, smoked paprika and sausage alongside dried rose petal, currents cedar and blackberry. The entry is fresh, the wine medium-bodied. Tangy red fruit, fine spice, cocoa and tobacco flavours are expressed on the palate. The finish lingers nicely.

According to my records, this is the first time I have tasted their Merlot and it's an impressive version. It's a fragrant wine offering plum, blackberry, toasted sweet spices, pipe tobacco, leather and vanilla on the nose. a fresh entry on the palate leads to good fruit expression, nice balanced and integrated tannins. The finish trails spice, cocoa and tobacco flavours.
Aged in French oak (33% new) for about 18 months before bottling and being released in March 2024.
